R-C earns top award at press association event

Staff reports

The Record-Courier was named the best weekly newspaper in Nevada with circulation of 5,000 or more at the weekend’s Nevada Press Association meeting in Winnemucca.

The R-C collected first place for general excellence and swept the community service award, winning first and second place.

“We walked away from the Nevada Press Association with the top two awards,” said R-C publisher Tim Huether.

“It’s a great feeling to win General Excellence, the top award in Nevada for newspapers our size, and to add the second best award, Community Service, really says a lot about our entire staff at The Record-Courier.”

In the community service category, The Record-Courier was singled out for coverage of the New Year’s flood and the newspaper’s support and extensive coverage of the effort to build the Western Nevada Community College Douglas campus.

“I’ve always been a strong believer in supporting our community in every way, especially through The Record-Courier,” Huether said. “Our entire staff has done a great job of working towards supporting the community and the recent awards we’ve earned means a great deal to all of us.”
