President’s visit grounds Minden-Tahoe Airport
Minden-Tahoe Airport was right on the very edge of the airspace requiring that it cease operations during President Obama’s visit on Wednesday.
Airport Manager Bobbi Thompson said the airport was closed to traffic from noon to 3:45 p.m. while the president was in Western Nevada.
The president landed at Reno-Tahoe Airport and flew to Stateline on Marine 1 escorted by Ospreys.
Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies helped with traffic and crowd control at Stateline.
Demonstrators along Highway 50 were reported to be well-behaved. Deputies ensured they weren’t blocking traffic, while still conducting their protest.
On Tuesday evening, deputies conducted a search for a man with long black hair who allegedly was carrying a shotgun. Sheriff’s Spokeswoman Bernadette Smith said the man was a musician with a guitar case.
