Pine Nut trail cleanup Saturday

Staff Reports

The Pine Nut Mountains Trail Association will conduct its annual cleanup event Saturday. Staging for this year’s event will be at 9 a.m. at the BLM access area at the end of Johnson Lane in Minden.

“The past two years we have held a two-day event due to the large volume of illegally dumped items in multiple areas of the western slope of the Pine Nuts. This year will be a single day event on Saturday,” said George Swetland, association president. “We suspect that this year’s weather and our increased efforts in years past may be a contributing factor in the reduced amounts of refuse that have been identified.”

The public is encouraged to participate and bring rakes, shovels and sturdy gloves — broken glass and sharp metal objects may be encountered.

“Again we would like to acknowledge our partners, Douglas Disposal, V&C Construction, Sierra Stompers 4X4 Club and Carson Motorsports for their assistance with this effort,” Swetland said.
