Pedestrian in accident recovering

A Gardnerville pedestrian who was injured in an accident on Monday afternoon is recovering at Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Blanca Lydia Garcia-Herrera, 43, is suffering from a broken wrist and ankle, and is improving, according to NHP Trooper Dan Lopez.

Garcia-Herrera was walking on the sidewalk along Highway 395, crossing the driveway at the O’Reilly Auto Parts store just south of Toler Lane when she was hit by a pickup which was struck from behind.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, a Toyota truck driven by Jack Wayne Hewlett, 23, was waiting for her to cross, when a gray Toyota Camry driven by Reno resident Samantha Aguilar, 24, struck the rear of the pickup causing it to move forward striking the pedestrian.

Garcia-Herrera was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center by CareFlight.

Both drivers’ of the other two vehicles were transported via ground to the Carson Valley Medical Center for nonlife-threatening injuries.

The accident is still under investigation by the highway patrol.
