Peace Officers Memorial Run passes through Valley Wednesday

Staff Reports

Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies run through Gardnerville during last year's Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Run.

Douglas County deputies will be participating in the 17th annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Run Wednesday.

The run started in Las Vegas on April 27, and is broken up into 129 segments, one for each officer listed on the memorial.

Being added to the list this year is Carson City Deputy Carl Howell, who was killed in a gun battle with a domestic battery suspect on Aug. 15, 2015.

Deputies are scheduled to pick up the baton in Wellington Wednesday morning and run up Highway 208 to Holbrook Junction where they will carry it up Highway 395.

Carson City will pick up the baton near Silver City RV Park and transport it to the memorial for the ceremony at noon Thursday.
