Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School presents winter concert

by Sharlene Irete

Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School concert bands and chorus present a free winter concert tonight at 7 p.m. in the school’s cafetorium.

Raffle tickets will be on sale to help raise money to send the bands and choir to the “Music in the Parks” concert competition held during May in Vallejo, Calif.

“The bands and chorus compete against other middle school bands from all over,” said music director Kevin Sady. “This is a pretty popular competition because the kids get to go to Marine World.”

The price of the trip could be as much as $10,000. There are 50 students in the bands and chorus and the cost is estimated to be $100 per child plus the expense of bus transportation.

“I’m really pleased with the advanced band,” said Sady. “They’re fantastic and the other groups are coming along nicely.”

Sady said that raffle tickets are $1 a piece or 6 for $5 for a chance to win special donated prizes.

“The concert’s free so come spend money on the raffle,” he said.
