Parade of Lights deadline nears
‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the street, every creature was stirring, with lights head to feet.
The third annual Parade of Lights will illuminate Carson Valley Dec. 5 starting at 5 p.m. This year’s theme is “‘Twas the Lights Before Christmas,” and parade entries are encouraged to be sent in on time.
“Last year we had 39 entries,” said parade coordinator Leesa Hanson, “and this year we anticipate as many or more.”
The parade consists of almost anything that moves, from animals and autos to people and “creative mobile objects,” all of which will be decorated with lights or illuminated with glowsticks, flashlights or other means.
An entry costs $25 and the deadline is Nov. 25, which will be strictly enforced. The Record-Courier will publish a program and songbook with all the entries in the Dec. 2 issue, and as a result, Hanson, said she “can’t stress enough the importance of getting those entries in for the program to be made.”
The parade will start at the Douglas County Senior Citizens on Meadow Lane, wind down Gilman to Douglas Avenue and Wildrose Drive and end at the Minden Park, where Sertoma will be on hand with hot drinks.
n Hi, Santa. Santa Claus will be the final entry of the parade. Parade of Lights enthusiasts may purchase commemorative sweatshirst at the chamber office and The Record-Courier.
The parade is being organized by Hanson as overall coordinator. Julia Hill is handling staging, and Bernie Curtis is in charge of judging. Ray Lummus is the one to call about having a booth at the park, at 782-4437.
Sponsors for the Parade of Lights are Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Authority and the businesses of Accolades Trophies Engraving and Gifts, Sharkey’s Nugget, Dr. Vincent D’Ascoli, Carson Valley Medical Center, Carson Valley Inn, Valley Do-it Center/Radio Shack, Sierra Pacific Power Co. and The Record-Courier.
To insure your presence in this year’s enlightening experience, all entries should be sent or faxed to the Chamber (see ad for entry details on page 7) before Nov. 25. For more information, call 782-8144.
