Pahrump resident killed in Hawthorne accident

Staff Reports

A Pahrump woman was killed Friday in a rollover accident caused by a patch of ice on Highway 95 near Walker Lake.

Angelina C. Lopez, 36, was a passenger in a 1966 Chevrolet pickup driven by Crescent Valley resident Steven D. Gordon, 60. Gordon received minor injuries in the accident, and has been treated and released.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen, evidence at the scene indicated the northbound pickup hit a patch of ice, which sent it spinning off the pavement. The truck rolled over and Lopez was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Seatbelts were installed in the vehicle, but Allen said neither occupant was wearing one.

The weather conditions on Friday morning included freezing fog and the roadway surface had patches of ice.

Trooper Chris Kelly of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this accident. Witnesses or anyone with additional information about the crash should contact him at (775) 689-4661 or regarding case No. NHP-131202406.
