One hospitalized in Kingsbury wreck

Staff Reports

An Azusa, Calif., woman was hospitalized as a result of a head-on accident at the top of Kingsbury Grade on Friday afternoon.

The accident blocked or slowed traffic over the main route from Carson Valley to Lake Tahoe for the better part of three hours.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Dora R. Aranda, 27, of Azusa, was westbound in a 2008 Toyota Yaris, with two passengers, when she drifted toward the right roadway edge and then overcorrected into the path of Zephyr Cove resident Donna M. Janaczek, 59, who was driving east in a 2007 Subaru Legacy.

Trooper Chuck Allen said the left front portion of the Toyota hit the left front of the Toyota. All four vehicle occupants were injured in the accident.

Two were flown from the scene and two were transported by ground ambulance. All were taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, including Aranda’s passengers, Melissa J Dominguez, 28, of Rialto, Calif., and Christopher M. Ashlock, 23, of San Diego.

All the victims but Aranda were treated and released on Friday, but Aranda was admitted for her injuries.

The crash is still being investigated and no charges have yet been filed.
