‘Once Upon a Homecoming’ at Douglas
Douglas High School Junior Zach Singer is glad to be part of the world of homecoming nominees.
Zach and his partner Mandy Weaver are one of 12 couples in this year’s Disney-themed winter homecoming court.
“It’s kind of nice. You never know what it’s like until you do it,” Zach said. “ I’m glad to be a part of it. I’m not in it to win it, it’s just fun being here.
The nominees have spent weeks rehearsing a two-minute dance piece to perform during today’s pep rally.
“I love to dance, but I’m not very good at it,” Mandy said. “It’s definitely going to be something to remember.”
The junior class prince and princess will be announced Friday at the varsity girls halftime.
Actual couple Noah Kelly and Carly Talia are in the running for senior class king and queen.
“I think we’re the only senior couple left who hasn’t been nominated,” Noah said. “It’s an experience. I’ve never been nominated for much, so it feels cool.”
Carly is looking forward to performing in the pep rally.
“It’s one of the most creative ones I’ve seen,” she said. “And it’s really cool because it’s all Disney songs.”
The king and queen winners will be crowned prior to the 7 p.m. boys varsity game against Wooster.
Homecoming week dress-up days coincide with the “Once Upon a Homecoming” theme. Tuesday was “Jungle Book.” Today is Walt Disney Wednesday, Thursday is “Sleeping Beauty” Day and Friday is Tigger Day.
Sophomores Dylan Pfaffenberger and Maddy Lowe are dressing as the soldiers from “Toy Story” for today’s theme day.
“I just hope I don’t fall down in front of everyone,” Maddy said of the dance routine. “I like practicing the dance and hanging out with all the nominees and getting dressed up.”
Dylan was just happy to be nominated.
“It’s cool,” he said. “I was really surprised.”
Dylan’s older brother, AJ, is a homecoming king nominee.
Sophomore class prince and princess will be announced during the girls junior varsity game.
