Obituary: Richard Budd
Richard Budd, 90, a Minden, Nevada resident passed away October 18, 2011 at his home. Richard was born April 28, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Charles C. Budd and Margaret M. Durrant. Richard enlisted in the Navy in 1939. He was serving aboard the battleship USS California when the Japanese staged that dastardly attack on Pearl Harbor where the ship was docked. He was able to swim ashore. He later was assigned to the battleships New Mexico and Pennsylvania. Subsequently, he was ordered to Corpus Christi Naval Air Station for flight training and commissioned an Ensign. He became a seaplane pilot, flying off the light cruisers USS Springfield and USS Pasadena. He retired in 1960 after Korean War flight duty with 20 years service. In civilian life, Lcdr. Budd was co-owner of the Orange County Insurance Agency for 34 years. His home was in Santa Ana where he lived with his wife and five children. Richard is survived by his wife Dorothy; his children; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A graveside service with military honors will be Wednesday, October 26th, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Eastside Memorial Park in Minden, Nevada.
