Nursing home resident accused of lewd behavior

Staff reports

An 86-year-old Gardnerville man is being held in the Douglas County jail after being accused of lewd behavior toward two women at a nursing home.

A felony charge of attempted sexual assault and a gross misdemeanor count of open and gross lewdness were filed Tuesday against Mirl Delmar King. He is to appear in East Fork Justice Court today.

A sheriff’s report says nurses at Virginia Ranch Skilled Nursing Facility, where King and the alleged victims were staying, documented separate incidents involving King on Sunday. The report says he fondled one woman and exposed himself to another.

King was arrested Monday afternoon. The report says he was supervised by nursing home personnel between the time of the alleged incidents and the time of the arrest. The report also says King suffers from dementia, as does one of the alleged victims.

The sheriff’s report says King is registered as a sex offender in Douglas County, and his daughter told deputies those offenses occurred in the 1960s and King was incarcerated for six years as a result.

King is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
