New music festival heads to South Shore
January 2, 2014
A new South Shore music festival plans to keep the New Year's party going well after Dec. 31 this season.
Soundscape — presented by Summer Winter Action Tours, LLC — will feature more than 15 artists and run from Dec. 31 to Jan. 3 at the Horizon Casino Resort.
"We've put together, in my opinion, the biggest single lineup we've had at any event," said Matt Gostanian, vice president of SWAT, which has produced dozens of events and trips in the Reno and Lake Tahoe areas.
The festivities will begin at 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve with several DJs performing back-to-back at the Soundscape main stage.
The 60-foot stage will be located at the Horizon's back parking lot, which can hold about 5,000 people, Gostanian said. SWAT expects the area to reach full capacity all three nights.
"We're basically turning the Horizon into what we're calling the SWAT playground," he said.

Artist's Borgore and Clockwork will headline the event on Jan 1, and DJs Chuckie and Carnage will lead the main stage on Jan. 2. After-parties will run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night at two of Horizon's ballrooms.
Additionally, the festival will feature "Fun Dip" hot pool parties where the Horizon pool is heated to 100 degrees and DJs perform nearby.
Carol Chaplin, executive director of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, said Soundscape provides more options to both locals and tourists alike — and that's a good thing.
"The variety of music and festival-type atmosphere is really great," she said.
So far, the festival has received a strong response from the community, Gostanian said. Ticket sales have been "going well," and SWAT has met all sales goals so far.
If things continue in a positive direction, he said South Shore could expect to see more Soundscape in the future.
"If everything goes as planned, we're making this an annual thing," Gostanian said. "That's absolutely our intention."
