Mother, children injured in suspected DUI collision

Tribune staff report

A mother and two children were injured in a Tuesday head-on collision with a driver suspected of being under the influence on Highway 50. The children, ages 8 and 4, and the woman were transported to Barton Memorial Hospital with nonlife threatening injuries, according to police.

Dara Siev, 39, was westbound in a Dodge Durango on Highway 50 near Blue Lake Avenue about 4:45 p.m. when the vehicle veered into the center left turn lane.

The Durango collided head-on with the Ford Escape carrying the family at 35-45 mph. The mother and her children were visiting from Pennsylvania.

Siev was arrested on the scene for failing to maintain his lane and driving under the influence of alcohol. He was transported and booked at El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe.

It is unknown if he has an attorney. He was uninjured in the collision.

Police are asking witnesses of the collision to step forward. Police encourage witnesses to call the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at 530-542-6100 or Secret Witness at 530-541-6800.
