Mother accused of leaving 3-year-old home alone
An Indian Hills woman was arrested Thursday after she reportedly left her 3-year-old daughter home alone for more than an hour.
Kami Knox, 27, was charged with felony child endangerment. She was jailed on $25,000 bail.
East Fork Justice Tom Perkins appointed lawyer Kris Brown to represent Knox, and ordered her back to court on Wednesday.
According to reports, deputies were called to the residence in the 3500 block of Vista Grande Boulevard on Thursday by a woman who stopped to inquire about garage sale items, and found the child at home alone.
The child’s father was contacted at his work, and returned home. He told officers Knox was supposed to be caring for the child.
Knox was stopped about 1:15 p.m. as she was proceeding toward the Home Depot parking lot. She told deputies when she returned home from running errands she saw patrol cars in front of her home, panicked and fled the scene in her vehicle.
She told authorities she put her daughter down for a nap around noon, and expected the child to sleep for three hours which she usually does. Knox said she thought she could complete her errands before the little girl woke up.
She told Perkins on Friday the only money she had was $800 from pawning her wedding ring.
If she bails out, the judge said she could have no contact with her husband or daughter.
He told the couple they must cooperate with Child Protective Services.
