Missing Dresslerville man found dead
The body of a Dresslerville man who went into the Pine Nuts early last week to cut wood was found Sunday afternoon.
Michael McDonald, 45, was found by a group of Washoe Tribal volunteers near Double Springs, according to Tribal Police Chief Richard Varner.
More than 50 searchers worked through the weekend to locate him after he was reported missing on Friday.
According to Washoe Tribal Sgt. John Leonard, McDonald appears to have died of natural causes well before he was reported missing.
McDonald went into the mountains on Dec. 30, and was reported missing after his family hadn’t heard from him.
“We entered him in as a missing person that same day,” Varner said.
Searchers from Douglas, Alpine, and Washoe counties were called out to help look for McDonald.
Washoe County’s RAVEN helicopter flew throughout the weekend to help look for McDonald, as did Washoe County’s Air Squadron.
“We truly appreciate the assistance of Douglas County, their search and rescue team, Alpine County and their searchers, and Washoe County,” Varner said.
