Minden merchants fare well during downtown Christmas fair
Downtown Minden became a Christmas Village Marketplace over the weekend. An estimated 2,000-plus people enjoyed the offerings.
Roxanne Stangle, owner of Tumblewind and a member of the Minden Downtown Merchants Association, said the marketplace on Esmeralda Avenue between 4th and 5th streets, featured holiday decorations, gifts, crafts and food.
The marketplace coincided with the Town of Minden’s annual gazebo lighting ceremony at Minden Town Park on Friday evening.
“Everybody had a good time,” she said. “That is the fun thing about it. These are things you can only have in a small town. Everybody was in the holiday spirit.”
Stangle said there were 14 booths selling homemade fleece wear, handmade candles and soaps, jewelry, holiday wreaths and chocolate and toffee from a secret family recipe.
Between the lighting ceremony and the marketplace, Stangle estimates between 1,500 and 2,000 people attended.
“I think the crowd was a little down from last year,” she said. “But the people out here as crafters were very happy.”
The next event sponsored by the Minden Downtown Merchants Association is its annual arts and crafts fair in June.
