Minden Medical Center opens
The $9.5 million Minden Medical Center will be open next week and an open house this weekend will allow Carson Valley residents to become acquainted with the facility.
The Minden Medical Center will hold its grand opening ceremonies at the mall on Ironwood Drive in north Minden Saturday.
Julia Dixon, community outreach coordinator for the Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City said the facility be officially be open for business next week.
“We are all excited – the administration, the staff. This will be a tremendous boost to the community with updated equipment and high-tech equipment there,” Dixon said.
Fifteen physicians’ groups will be housed in the mall, in addition to the new home of the Carson Valley Health Center, now known as Minden Emergency/Urgent Care. The center will be moving from its Gardnerville location at Stratton Center up to the new medical mall next week.
The Minden Medical Center cost a total $9.5 million and construction is still going on.
Starting at 9 a.m. today, a wellness fair and open house will feature many informational and entertaining events.
Carson Imaging is providing 100 certificates for free screening mammograms at the open house.
Mammogram certificates will be available to women 40 years or older who have never had a mammogram and do not suspect breast cancer.
“A free mammogram is a $120 service,” said Debby Platt, director of diagnostic services at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. “By offering this service to the women of Carson Valley, we hope to emphasize the importance of frequent and regular mammograms.”
Minden Medical Center’s open house festivities will include refreshments, tours, a Wellness Fair, live radio remotes by KGVM and KTTL and prize drawings. The public is invited to attend the event and tour the new state-of-the-art facility.
Children will enjoy the Careflight landing and tours, the fire truck and fire safety house. Parents will be able to get their children fingerprinted.
The center was designed to house several diverse medical specialties in addition to Emergency/Urgent Care, including general surgery, internal medicine, family practice, orthopedic surgery, podiatry, urology, cardiology, neurology, radiology, physical therapy, obstetrics, gastroenterology and opthalmology, to name a few.
The wellness fair will include a free 22-item chemistry panel, free thyroid stimulating hormone tests, complete blood counts, colorectal cancer screenings and free blood pressure checks. Those interested in the 22-item chemistry panel must fast for 12-14 hours, drink several glasses of water and take daily medication with water only prior to the test. The Wellness Fair is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Carson Imaging will be located in the Minden Medical Center next to Minden Emergency/Urgent Care. Carson Imaging’s hours of operations will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
