Men suspected of heroin distribution
Two Gardnerville Ranchos men are in Douglas County Jail on felony charges that they purchased heroin in Reno for distribution in Douglas County.
Matthew Price, 25, is charged with offering or attempting to sell a controlled substance, and conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.
Heath Crawford-Penueta, 33, is charged with conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.
Both are in jail on $5,000 bail with court appearances set for Wednesday.
Price, Crawford-Penueta and a third man were pulled over on June 25 for a traffic violation.
Deputies said the three displayed suspicious behavior, and gave officers permission to search the vehicle which was registered to Penueta.
A search of the suspects and the vehicle turned up several hypodermic needles, the bottom of an aluminum soda can with suspected heroin residue.
The three appeared June 28 in East Fork Justice Court, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession, and were fined and released. After further investigation, warrants were issued July 29 for Price and Crawford-Penueta who were taken into custody last week.
Price is represented by attorney Matt Ence, and Crawford-Penueta by Derrick Lopez.
