Man in custody after Genoa incident

Staff Reports

A Genoa woman said she was frightened when a stranger tried to enter her home early Thursday morning by pounding on the windows.

The resident said she heard a loud banging on the house and glass, and saw a man stacking wood on the rear deck while kicking the glass doors and windows.

She said he was told multiple times to leave, but instead tried different doors and windows while talking to himself. She said she was fearful for herself and her family.

The man, identified as Wesley Daniel Weigand, 27, told deputies his cousin lived at the house and he didn’t understand why he wouldn’t let him in.

Deputies said Weigand appeared to be under the influence. He appeared to doze off in the back of the patrol car on his way to Minden.

Weigand was booked into Douglas County Jail on a charge of attempted home invasion and possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription.
