Man held in laundry burglaries

Staff Reports

A 46-year-old Fernley man, accused of rifling coin machines at the Village Launderette in Gardnerville, was charged with burglary and destruction of property.

East Fork Judge Tom Perkins appointed Tod Young to represent Erick Leroy Rogers, and set his next court appearance for April 4.

Rogers, a Nevada State Prison inmate, is accused of breaking into several washing machine coin boxes at the laundry on Oct. 19 and Nov. 2.

He was arrested at the Carson City Inn Motel shortly after the second burglary in Gardnerville and changed with a similar offense in Carson City.

Surveillance video from the Gardnerville incident, including video footage of the suspect and his vehicle, implicated Rogers.

According to reports, officers recovered the same jacket seen in the videotape in Rogers’ motel room. He was reportedly sharing the room with a woman who was identified in the videotape.

She claimed to be in the rest room while Rogers broke into the washing machines in Gardnerville.

She admitted accompanying Rogers to the Carson City burglary and watched him break into a laundry machine with a screwdriver. She said she didn’t know how much money was taken, but some of it was spent on food and gas.

He was returned to Douglas County Jail this week. His bail is $6,000 for the Douglas County offenses.
