Man faces five years in child porn case

A 21-year-old Gardnerville Ranchos man admitted a charge of attempted possession of pornography depicting children under the age of 16.

Kyle Parker Hewit, 21, faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Hewit appeared in Douglas County District Court on Monday.

Defense attorney Kris Brown said Hewit has already undergone a psychosexual evaluation and has been certified that he is at low risk to reoffend, if he attends counseling.

Hewit, who is free on bail, told Judge Michael Gibbons he was working nine hours a day.

Brown confirmed there were six images of children on Hewit’s computer when a federal sweep seeking distributors of child pornography located his Internet protocol address.

An 8-year-old girl was identified from her picture, but she was not local. Most of the other children were Russian or Eastern European, Brown said. Hewit was not involved in the production of the pornography, but Brown said those who were are being prosecuted.

Gibbons set sentencing for Hewit for Nov. 29. A global positioning monitor he was wearing was ordered removed.

He also ordered Hewit not to have computer access unless he is being monitored and not to possess sexually explicit material.
