Man faces felonies in struggle with deputies
A man who struggled with a deputy along Highway 395 near Cradlebaugh Bridge in February is in Douglas County custody facing charges of theft and fighting with deputies.
Ross Thomas Bayard, 28, was one of a trio who’d raided the Gardnerville Walmart on Feb. 17, taking $3,509 in merchandise, including 10 cameras and camcorders.
A description of the getaway car was broadcast and a deputy spotted a Kia matching the description northbound on Highway 395.
When the deputy got out to contact the occupants of the Kia, he saw Bayard ducking down in the back seat and ordered him out of the vehicle.
Bayard then attempted to flee and was tasered during a struggle along the highway.
Passing motorists stopped to prevent the other two occupants in the vehicle from leaving the scene while Bayard was taken for treatment to dislodge a taser probe from his scalp.
Bayard is serving time in prison on two charges of possession of a stolen vehicle out of Washoe County.
He was on probation for one count when he was involved in the Walmart raid, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.
