Man arrested at scene of Toler fire
A Gardnerville man was taken into custody for allegedly trying to walk back into his burning home on Tuesday night.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 1327 Toler Lane at about 7:13 p.m. for a report of a fire in a bedroom closet.
The fire caused extensive smoke damage in the master bedroom, the closet and the bathroom. Capt. Terry Taylor estimated the damage at about $25,000.
The occupants of the home were Ralph Gallette, 50, and Allana McDaniel, two dogs and two cats.
Gallette was detained by deputies for repeatedly trying to go back into the home while firefighters were at work. He was booked into Douglas County jail and was released on $637 bail.
The only injury in the fire was to a cat who was taken to the veterinarian and treated there.
Taylor said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
