Staff Reports
Douglas County Sheriff's Office

Bail is $54,637 for a Johnson Lane man arrested early Tuesday on allegations he pointed a gun at his wife, pulled the trigger, and yelled “bam!” when the weapon did not go off.

Scott Simpson, 43, was jailed on allegations of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, possession of a weapon while intoxicated and driving under the influence.

He is to appear Wednesday in East Fork Justice Court.

According to reports, Simpson arrived home from work early Tuesday, grabbed his wife by the throat and punched her in the head. The victim said she got away, and called 911.

By this time, the suspect had pointed a gun at her head, pulled the trigger and yelled “Bam!” and, “the gun jammed.”

The victim’s sister and brother-in-law, also at the residence, claimed Simpson pointed the weapon at the victim three more times, yelling “bam” each time. He left the residence, and was apprehended by deputies who saw him in the vicinity of his Fremont Street home.

Deputies arrived on scene about 4:30 a.m.

They discovered the gun in the back of his pants, and said he had been drinking.
