Mammoth Lakes man killed in rock climbing fall

Bridgeport, Calif. — A Mammoth Lakes man was killed Monday when he fell 60 feet while rock climbing in Clark Canyon south of Mono Lake.

Ryan Nash, 35, was climbing in a popular spot known as Area 13 when he fell from the rock face.

Mono County authorities received the call around 12:30 p.m. Mono County Paramedics, June Lake Fire Department, Mono County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team responded.

Lifesaving measures were conducted but were unsuccessful and Nash was pronounced deceased at the scene, spokeswoman Jennifer Hansen said.

The cause of death is pending autopsy results but appears to be of traumatic injuries caused by the fall, she said. Foul play is not suspected in the cause of death.
