Attorney General Laxalt to speak at 9-11 dinner
August 23, 2017
It was happenstance that Douglas County's first commemoration of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks happened the next night in 2001.
The Sierra Nevada Republican Women have been hosting the dinner since the first one on Sept. 12, 2001.
While none of the club's speakers could make the dinner due to travel restrictions, there was a packed house where participants talked about the attacks.
On Sept. 10, Sierra Nevada Republican Women will continue the 17-year tradition at the Carson Valley Inn.
"This is the 17th year that SNRW has held this dinner to commemorate the event that has changed all of our lives, and to pay tribute to those who gave their lives and to our dedicated 'First Responders,'" said Organizer Mary Portman.
This year's speaker will be Attorney General Adam Laxalt a U.S, Navy lieutenant, who served as a Judge Advocate General, and was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal for his service in Iraq.
