John Filas identified as 93-year-old killed in Kingsbury wreck

Gardnerville, Nev. — A 93-year-old Zephyr Cove man was killed after he struck a tree on Kingsbury Grade on Monday afternoon.
John Jacob Filas was identified as the man killed in the single-vehicle wreck, which occurred at 2:44 p.m. near Katherine Drive in Stateline.
According to the preliminary investigation, Filas was westbound on the Lake side of Kingsbury when the Ford Ranger he was driving drifted off the right side of the highway through the dirt and hit a tree.
Filas was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he later died, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
He was wearing his seatbelt when the accident occurred.
Kingsbury remained open through the accident and subsequent investigation. That area is two lanes with a no-passing zone. The speed limit is 35 mph.
Trooper H. Shook of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Incline substation is investigating this incident.
