JobConnect event aims to boost jobs
Carson City JobConnect is holding a special event beginning Monday to find more jobs for Carson City, Douglas and Lyon County workers.
JobConnect and the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation have invited employers to participate in the campaign by listing their job openings with the state’s One-Stop Employment Centers.
DETR Director Frank Woodbeck said that from Monday through Friday, 10 of his business service associates will “scour” the area looking for employers. He said they plan to contact more than 1,200 businesses by email, postal services or personal visits.
Gov. Brian Sandoval has urged employers to join in partnership with the state to find qualified workers for their openings.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for area businesses to have a direct impact on improvingthe employment situation in northern Nevada,” he said. “The partnership between the state and private businesses is crucial in tackling the unemployment crisis we are still experiencing.”
JobConnect offers employers services including screening potential workers, on-site interviews and assistance in placement and training.
Sandoval said that in addition, employers can receive financial incentives for hiring jobless workers through the Silver State Works program.
Businesses interested in JobConnect can contact the office at 684-0400.
