How you can recycle Christmas tree

staff reports

Christmas tree recycling efforts will start Monday in Carson Valley

The trees will be shredded and the chips used for erosion control. More than 3,00 trees were collected after the 1998 holiday season. Most of the tree chips were used at Kahle Park in Stateline.

Customers of Douglas Disposal and South Tahoe Refuse can place their trees next to their trash cans on normal pickup days Jan. 3-7 in the Carson Valley and through Jan. 7 at Lake Tahoe. Neighbors who do not have trash pickup service can place their trees with those who do.

Trees can also be left at any of the following collection sites:

— Lampe Park on Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

— Johnson Lane Park on Stephanie Way

— Topaz Ranch Estates Park on Carter Way

— Ranchos Aspen Park on Muir Drive

— Douglas County Fairgrounds on Pinenut Road

— Zephyr Cove Park on Warrior Way at Lake Tahoe

— Kahle Park on Kingsbury Grade, Lake Tahoe.

Tinsel, lights, nails and stands must be removed from the trees. Flocked trees will not be accepted because they will gum up the chippers.
