Hot August Nights visits Carson Valley Aug. 9
More than 600 cars are expected to participate in the Hot August Nights Poker Run in Minden on 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 9.
The classic cars will make their way to Carson Valley representing some of the 5,500 entrants in this year’s nationally recognized 26th Annual Hot August Nights, one of Northern Nevada’s premier annual events.
The cars will participate in a 110-mile seven stop poker run which begins in Reno, continues through Carson City to Minden Park and then parades over Kingsbury Grade to South Lake Tahoe, finishing up at Legends at Sparks Marina. For the ninth year, the Minden Park stop will be the official lunch stop featuring an up close and personal way to view and photograph these beautiful vehicles and have an opportunity to speak with the owners!
Carson Valley Visitors Authority and the Town of Minden are co-sponsors of the event. The Valley Cruisers Car Club will assist with parking and Poker Card distribution,local service clubs and restaurants will be at the park serving up lunch and nearby restaurants and retailers always provide specials the day of the event.
Streets will be closed to traffic from Esmeralda Avenue and 4th Street around the Minden Park area.
Hot August Nights will celebrate its 26th year when it kicks off in South Lake Tahoe Aug. 3-5 and continues in Reno and Sparks Aug. 7-12.
“Hot August Nights has remained an integral part of northern Nevada for more than two decades and we anticipate 2012 to be one of our biggest events yet,” said Tony Marini, executive director of Hot August Nights. “This year, we have some of the best entertainment, we’ve brought back some really crowd-pleasing events and are introducing some exciting new events to give attendees and participants the experience of a lifetime and give our community an event to be proud of.”
