Minden will be dealing from the top of the deck on Thursday as the annual Hot August Nights poker run stops at Minden Park for lunch.

Hundreds of classic cars will pass down Esmeralda Street and stop for a bite on their way from Reno and back.

The newly formed Main Street Minden will join the Carson Valley Visitor’s Authority to host the lunch stop 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hot August nights is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its founding. Thursday will be the eighth straight year Hot August Nights has come to Minden.

The Town of Minden and Valley Cruisers Car Club help set up the venue and direct cars while the Carson Valley Lions Club provides hamburgers and hot dogs.

“We couldn’t do it without the many volunteers it takes to make it all happen,” said Main Street Manager Connie L. Billington. “Come down to Minden Park to see the extraordinary classic cars (250 or more) and join us in welcoming the Poker Run participants in experiencing the down home flavor of Minden and Carson Valley.”

Billington said local DJ Bill McClain will be the host for the day’s events.

“Food Venues will include Taste of Home, who will join us this year preparing a pulled pork sandwich on a hoagie roll with coleslaw and chips.”

She said coupons will be available at the event from Minden Meat & Deli, The Corner Bar, Francisco’s and Tumblewind Antiques for automobile memorabilia.

Esmeralda Avenue will closed for the event, as cars park in front of the CVIC Hall.

Traffic controls will also be in place on Fourth and Fifth streets in Minden along the park.

Other stops on the poker run include the Atlantis Casino Resort, Audi Reno-Tahoe, Virginia City and Champion Chevrolet.
