Homecoming returns to Minden
A call for nominations for a new Douglas High School Hall of Fame has been extended to Monday, Leadership Class Advisory Karen Lamb said this week.
On Wednesday Minden Town Board members approved waiving fees and potentially closing roads around Minden Park on Sept. 28 as part of Homecoming Week at Douglas High School.
Lamb said the school is planning to have a fall gathering at the park for the sports and clubs, and perhaps a small parade around the park for the event.
Town Board Chairman John Stephans said he was eager to see the homecoming parade return to Minden.
Lamb said it has been about eight years since the last parade, and that she hoped that next year the school and Minden could work together to bring it back.
The Hall of Fame announcement would be part of the celebration. Lamb said she has a handful of nominations so far.
The high school has four sports hall of fames focusing on football, baseball, basketball and wrestling.
The new hall of fame would be based on any contribution to the school by either students or faculty. In order to be considered a nominee would have to have graduated in or before 2006. Faculty members would have to have retired in or before 2011.
