Holiday Gala — a Gardnerville tradition

The Douglas County Historical Society's annual Holiday Gala runs from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 US Highway 395 N, Gardnerville.

Today the Douglas County Historical Society invites you and your family to its annual Holiday Gala. Visit a Winter Wonderland as the main gallery is transformed into an enchanting place filled with exquisitely decorated Christmas trees. The trees are part of a friendly competition between individuals, groups, and local businesses each year in which visitors to the museum may place votes for their favorites. Winners are announced at a special artisan reception after the holidays.

Nestled in among the trees you’ll find gingerbread houses and snow globes — another competition seeking your votes. Santa himself will be there so be prepared to take some “selfies” with him. DCHS staff will be on hand to help take family photos with your cameras for you.

The museum book and gift store will be open that day as well. Be sure to stop by to see some unique ideas your holiday shopping where you will receive 10 percent off your purchases throughout December.

“Santa’s Cookie Shop” is this year’s name for what was formerly called the “Cookie Walk.” It’s a place to choose your favorite homemade and decorated cookies to buy on that day. They make personal, perfect hostess and holiday gifts for the loved ones on your list. You’ll want to arrive early for the best selection of homemade goodies. Be at the backdoor downstairs at 10 a.m. to be among the first to enter. The cookie sale ends when “sold out.” By the way, if you are a baker, the museum gratefully accepts donated homemade items for this sale in advance of the sale. Please call the office to find out more 782-2555.

Festivities run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 US Highway 395 N, Gardnerville. Visit Free Admission. As always, the public is invited to view the Parade of Lights from the museum’s lawn. The parade starts at 5 p.m., bring camp chairs and blankets. For those who have inquired, sorry, there will be no advance Melodrama tickets on sale at this year’s event as in the past.

Once again, this year our Carson Valley Lions Club members are selling See’s Candies each day from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. through Christmas Eve. This year their trailer is located at Big Daddy’s Bicycles, 1546 US Highway 395, Gardnerville. There is a good selection with no mark up from store prices and all proceeds go to benefit the Lions charitable projects that focus on Youth, Relieving Hunger, Vision and the Environment. This is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year and your support is greatly appreciated. See for more information.
