Highway 88 cleared after New Year’s Eve accident
A Redwood, Calif., man was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center with nonlife threatening injuries after he drove off Highway 88 at about 2 p.m. New Year’s Eve.
James Fanucchi, 61, was northbound when he drove off the roadway edge, then overcorrected and rolled the pickup, which ended up back on its wheels, straddling a fence.
Fanucchi was taken to Reno by East Fork ambulance.
■ A pickup backing onto Highway 395 from a private road south of Riverview was struck by another pickup causing a Dec. 27 wreck that closed the highway.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Krystal Marie Alderson, 28, was backing up onto the highway when it was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet pickup driven by Thomas E. Williams, 60.
It appears Williams didn’t see the Ram because there’s no sign he slowed down, NHP Trooper Dan Lopez said. The accident occurred at 9:35 p.m.
According to the call logs three people were injured. One was able to climb out of the wreckage and was taken for treatment by ambulance.
Two were helicoptered for treatment as a result of the accident.
Highway 395 was closed at the intersection for about two hours while the accident was cleared.
■ An early morning Christmas Day accident occurred when Wellington resident Richard Bales, 88, struck a patch of ice on Highway 395 three miles north of Holbrook Junction. Bales’ Ford pickup rolled and ended up on its roof. He was able to climb out the back window and was taken for treatment to Carson Valley Medical Center.
