Hey, was that Jewel at Sharkey’s?
After the sun rose early Thursday morning, a star shot through the Carson Valley.
Passing through Gardnerville, on her first tour of the United States since the summer of 1997, pop singer Jewel stopped to grab a bite at a spot where she’s likely to feel right at home.
At about 7:30 Thursday morning, Jewel was spotted at the coffee shop at Sharkey’s Nugget. Members of the wait staff didn’t remember what she ate or how much she tipped.
While a couple of Sharkey’s customers were star struck, employee Lori Taylor was not charmed by Jewel’s celebrity sparkle.
“I didn’t notice until everybody else got excited. She was a normal person,” Taylor said.
Taylor once worked as a clerk at a video storage facility in Hollywood and said because of her exposure to stars there, she does not get excited when celebrities are around.
“I didn’t even really know who she was,” said Mary Clymer, a waitress at Sharkey’s. “A couple of customers came up and got her autograph.”
According Sharkey’s employees, Jewel was accompanied by an unidentified male.
Jewel will tour California this month, continuing on to Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Texas, New Orleans, New Jersey and New York in July.
