Hellwinkel is named CattleWoman of the Year
Victoria “Vickie” Hellwinkel of Gardnerville was named the 1997 Western Nevada CattleWoman of the Year at the last meeting held at John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks.
The CattleWomen’s organization is dedicated to the promotion of and education about the beef industry.
Marie Johnson of Carson Valley, a past president, nominated Hellwinkel for CattleWoman of the Year because of her behind-the-scenes dedication and hard work for many years.
Hellwinkel has been a member of the organization since its inception in 1953 and still carries her original membership card. She single-handedly cross-stitched by hand 64 denim bags which represented Nevada agriculture for the National CattleWomen’s Regional Convention this last summer.
She also traveled a lot this last year. She worked with the Beef Ambassador program to produce a state winner from the Western Nevada CattleWomen’s region, Andrea Derobertis of Gardnerville. The Beef Ambassador program allows youth to promote the beef industry by giving presentations to various community service organizations.
Hellwinkel was given a pair of silver earrings in the shape of saddle stirrups to represent her foothold in the organization. She is always ready to lend a hand or give a word of advice, whenever needed. She has helped to keep the Western Nevada CattleWomen’s Association in the forefront of the beef industry.
Editor’s note: Annalyn Settelmeyer is vice president of Western Nevada CattleWomen.
