The seventh annual South Lake Tahoe Food & Wine Festival takes over Harrah’s and Harveys Lake Tahoe this weekend.

“It’s a lot of fun, and if you haven’t been before you should check it out,” Harrah’s and Harveys Lake Tahoe public affairs representative John Packer said. “There are so many food booths and wine tastings, depending on what you want to do — it’s going to be quite a layout.”

A variety of events are scheduled for the weekend. The festival begins on Friday with sake tasting at Harrah’s Sushi Kai and a kick-off party at Peek Nightclub. Learn about the differences between traditional and non-traditional sake from 10-11 p.m. before heading to the party, which begins at 10:30 p.m. and lasts until 4:30 a.m.

On Saturday the Grand Market Expo opens at 1 p.m. with food, wine, craft brews and liquor from an assortment of booths.

“That’s pretty much the centerpiece of the event. Every year I see more and more locals coming to it. There are almost 40 different booths, and all kinds of food are really well represented,” Packer said.

Rounding out Saturday’s activities are the President’s Dinner and a concert from The Lovin’ Spoonful. Special guest Violet Grgich hosts the dinner. Her father, Mike Grgich, made the wine that won Best Wine in the World at the Paris Tasting in 1976. In the four-course meal, attendees get pairings of specialty dishes and Grgich wines.

When the dinner — held at Harveys 19 Kitchen & Bar — comes to a close at 7 p.m., head to Harrah’s South Shore Room for The Lovin’ Spoonful concert at 7:30 p.m.

The evening comes to a close with a Craft Whiskey Revolution, 9-10 p.m. at Harrah’s Summit.

“Each event varies in size and capacity. A lot will sell out. Sake tasting is maximum 40 people. The kick off party on Friday night and the party on Saturday — those are always packed. There are easily 1,000 people a night in Peek. Grand Market Expo capacity is about 800, maybe a little more,” Packer said.

The Farewell Champagne Brunch is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Harrah’s Forest Buffet.

“We’re just looking forward to a lot of fun,” Packer said.
