Gunshot that killed Gardnerville woman may have been self inflicted

Detectives are investigating the gunshot death of a Gardnerville woman shortly after midnight today.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home in the 1300 block of Waterloo Lane at about 12:30 a.m. after dispatchers received a call from a man who told them his wife had shot herself at their home.
Deputies found a 31 year-old female lying dead on the floor in the living room of the residence. Investigation revealed the female to be dead from a single gunshot wound to her head. A recently discharged handgun was found lying next to the female, according to Sheriff’s Spokesman Sgt. Jim Halsey.
Initial investigation with the surviving husband has revealed information that the female may have been emotionally distraught over personal issues.
The names of the involved parties are withheld pending continued investigation and notification of next-of-kin.
