With between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors expected at Minden-Tahoe Airport for the Aviation Roundup this weekend, there are some things folks should know, like how to get there.
Driving south on Highway 395 from Carson City, motorists should turn left on Johnson Lane at the stop light. The left turn lane at Airport Road will be closed.
After turning onto Johnson Lane, drive about a mile and turn right onto Heybourne Road. On Heybourne Road, drive about 1.75 miles and turn right onto Airport Road.
The road will be marked to guide you to parking.
Those visitors coming from the south, through Minden-Gardnerville, should turn right on Airport Road and then turn right again onto Meridian Boulevard.
Signs will guide you to parking.
Shuttle buses will pick up people at designated stops near the parking lots. They will transport people between the airport and the parking areas. The shuttles are provided free of charge by the Aviation Roundup.
There will be no left turn onto Highway 395 from Genoa Lane during the day on Saturday and Sunday.
Since there will be no bleacher seating, lawn chairs are recommended.
Tickets are good for one day only. Necessary items in a small backpack or bag such as medication, light clothing-blankets, sunscreen will be allowed.
If you are sitting in general admission, please bring blankets and/or folding chairs as there are no seats provided. Strollers are welcome in the general admission area.
Gates open at 10 a.m. Opening ceremonies are noon both days with the Misty Blues skydiving team bringing in the U.S. flag for the national anthem.
Performances are 12:30-3 p.m. both days, with the Thunderbirds arriving at around 3 p.m.
Gates close each day at 5 p.m.
Temperatures in Minden each day are expected to hit 90 degrees under sunny skies, with light winds in the afternoon.
General admission tickets will be under open sky, so visitors are encouraged to plan accordingly and bring plenty of sunscreen.
