Genoans install carillon bells

Jacks Valley Road is closed this morning for the Genoa Cowboy Festival.

Genoans successfully installed carillon bells in the town hall on Tuesday and they should be serenading visitors to the Cowboy Festival this weekend. The bells were paid for by private donations, and installed with the help of the townspeople.

Roger Teig, who was heading up the organization to purchase the bells, said Bob Whear, and Roger and Randy Falcke installed the speakers in the town hall’s roof tower. Teig said the bells were tested at 6:30 p.m.

“The system worked perfectly and will be ready to ring in the start of the Genoa Cowboy Festival,” he said.

A county bucket truck helped with the installation that took more than four hours, Teig said.

The bells were purchased with private funds raised by the group “Friends of Genoa” and are going to be gifted to the Town.

The Cowboy Festival starts 8 a.m. today with Jim Wood’s birding event at the River Fork Ranch.

Most of the events in town begin at 10 a.m. and run until 4 p.m. Hot Club of Cowtown, Waddie Mitchell and Dave Stamey perform tonight.
