General Electric donates to UNR College of Engineering
General Electric has announced another in a series of gifts to the University of Nevada, Reno, College of Engineering.
The gift of $10,000 is a donation to the Dean’s Fund for Excellence to become a member of the Engineering Corporate Partners program.
Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki called the occasion “a celebration of how private business can make a meaningful difference to public education in Nevada.”
“The funding cuts Nevada has been forced to make provide a unique opportunity for private business to play a central role in the evolution of public education,” he said. “We are proud to partner with a company like GE that understands their involvement is paramount to creating a labor force that will lead us to new development and economic recovery.”
The announcement comes as a call-to-action by GE, the Nevada System of Higher Education, Nevada Commission on Economic Development and their partners to encourage greater connection between education and business.
“More than ever, we need a skilled labor force to lead the world in development and innovation,” said Lee Bonner, spokesperson for GE Energy in Minden. “When business works together with higher education in Nevada, great things can happen.”
