Gardnerville or Los Angeles? Thunderbirds still a go

Smoke obscures Jobs Peak from Gardnerville on Friday evening.

The question of the day at Minden-Tahoe Airport on Friday was whether it was too smoky for the Thunderbirds to perform.

The answer was an emphatic, “No.”

Visibility was seven miles today, according to a post on the county’s Facebook Page.

The Thunderbirds are based at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, where smog on a day like Friday isn’t unusual.

Smoke and haze is expected to continue into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service with some improvement on Sunday.

While the wind will shift to the north on Friday night, which will bring smoke from the Oregon and Washington fires into Carson Valley.

Temperatures will remain in the 90s through the weekend.
