Gardnerville Marine home from Afghanistan

Staff Reports

Marine Cpl. David Marcuse returned home on leave Saturday night after eight months of combat duty in Afghanistan.

He is a squad leader for a team in the 2/6 G Company, stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

He was in the south of Afghanistan in the middle of the war.

“Each day was a challenge and danger to their lives and sadly he lost one of his closest friends and squad member,” said his mother, Gardnerville resident Jan Alcott.

He flew into Reno on Saturday night to visit with his mother, grandmother Charlotte Braddy and uncle Steve Braddy, both of Minden, also his close friends including godparents Sherlyn and Doug Fongs.

His family thanked their friends, neighbors and the Christ Presbyterian Church of Gardnerville for their prayers and support.

Marcuse grew up in South Lake Tahoe and Gardnerville, graduating from Douglas High School in 2005. He joined the Marines after high school and has been serving his country ever since.
