Gardnerville artist injured in accident

Staff Reports

Gardnerville artist Reiko Hervin is in stable condition at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno after an accident that occurred on Highway 208 at Jack Wright Summit on Sunday night.

A Wellington resident, Hervin, 51, was heading east on the highway at about 6:40 p.m. when a trailer with a Jeep on it came unhitched from an oncoming car and entered her lane.

Hervin’s silver Scion struck the trailer and Jeep head-on.

Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Scott Farmer said the Jeep and trailer was being hauled by a Dodge pickup driven by Gardnerville resident Jon Eugene McElhaney, 34.

Farmer said the NHP is doing an investigation to determine how the two vehicles separated.

Herven received substantial broken bones in the accident.

He said that troopers found indications of alcohol use by McElhaney and he was taken into custody for driving under the influence.

Farmer said the accident closed the road for at least four hours. The accident occurred after sunset.
