Fund-raiser Saturday for woman with leukemia

by Merrie Leininger

A fund-raiser at Two Guys From Italy on Saturday is being held to help Tiffany Morris, who has been in the hospital for six weeks fighting a rare form of leukemia.

Morris, 28, is the mother of Kaleb, 1, Brittany, 5, Nickolas, 4, and the wife of Scott Morris, who works at RO Anderson Engineering, Inc.

Morris, who worked out of her home as a paralegal, has been receiving chemotherapy and almost daily blood transfusions since she was admitted. Acute myeloid leukemia strikes only one in 10,000 people.

“Doctors are hopeful she’ll respond to the treatment,” said Tiffany’s mother-in-law, Jo Ann Morris.

Jo Ann Morris said anyone who would like to donate blood would be welcome. She said United Blood Services in Carson City has a mobile van that travels to the Carson Valley. Appointments can even be made so donors don’t have to wait.

The fund-raiser will help pay for hospital bills.

The fund-raiser will include karaoke, a raffle and a silent auction. Jo Ann Morris said 75 businesses so far have donated items for prizes. Some of the raffle prizes and auction items include a complete TV satellite system, a microwave oven and six chiropractic treatments from Dr. Don Miner, worth $150.

“Because of the overwhelming response from the community and local businesses we will need to list all gifts and contributions donated at a later date. Our sincerest thanks to you all,” Tana Runacres said on behalf of the whole family. Runacres is Scott’s sister.

Anyone can donate money to the Tiffany Morris Leukemia Fund at Bank of America. The account number is 560040853.

“The family wants to thank the community for it’s support, cards, prayers and monetary support,” Jo Ann Morris said.

Raffle tickets can be bought at Two Guys the night of the event, Saturday, May 1 at 5 p.m. They can also buy tickets by calling the Runacres at 265-2402 or Jo Ann at 265-3599.
