Piano and caroling at free holiday concert

Staff Reports

Anyone looking to get into the spirit of the holiday season can attend a free piano concert performed by local music school students and a Christmas carol sing-along from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Coventry Cross Episcopal Church in Minden.

The second annual Christmas Musicale will spotlight several adult students of Carson City keyboard instructor Marion Peters. Betty Salinas, Wyatt Kremer, Mary Shuler, and Don Sullivan will entertain attendees with classical, contemporary, religious, and rag-time music. Peters will play duets with the students. After the performance, the audience can sing along to Christmas carols with Peters accompanying on the piano.

Peters holds a degree in piano from the University of Wisconsin/Green Bay, where she gave piano lessons to 65 students per week at her home studio. She moved to Nevada in 1998 and in 2006 became a full-time organist and choir accompanist at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church in Carson City. She retired from her full-time position in 2016, but continues to act as a “fill-in” organist/piano player and choir accompaniment. She also teaches piano to a handful of students from beginners to well-accomplished musicians.

After the concert and holiday sing-along, attendees can enjoy cookies, hot chocolate, and coffee in the Parish Hall.

Coventry Cross Episcopal Church is located at 1631 Esmeralda Place in Minden.
