First baby of the year home from hospital

by Heidi Alder, staff writer

Both the last baby of 2000 and the first baby of 2001 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital were girls.

Jacks Valley residents Kim and Richard Jimenez are the parents of the first baby of 2001.

Lindsey Elena Marie Jimenez was born naturally at 1:27 a.m. Jan. 2. Lindsey was 7 pounds and 18 inches long.

Kim is the mother of three other children, ages 13, 12 and 10. She and her husband moved to Jacks Valley from Indiana in July 2000.

Lindsey was born two weeks earlier than her due date, which surprised Kim who had her other children the day before or after the due date.

The Carson-Tahoe Hospital Ladies Auxiliary gave Kim and Lindsey baby gifts, including blankets, T-shirts, clothes and books.

Kim did not know until mid-morning of Jan. 2 that Lindsey was the first baby of 2001. Kim and Lindsey are doing well. They were released from the hospital Jan. 3.

Kira Ost is the mother of the last baby of 2000. Her daughter was born by Caesarian section the afternoon of Dec. 31.

Ost did not want to comment and the hospital would not give any details of the birth.

Ost received a gift certificate for beef from the Western Nevada CattleWomen’s Association, which decided to reward the last baby of the year.
