Explorers will host conference
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department Explorer Post 2105 will be the hosts for this weekend’s 1999 Western Region Law Enforcement Exploring Conference.
The Explorers, a group affiliated with the Boy Scouts, is made up of young people who do police training with sheriff’s deputies.
The conference tests explorers’ skills in traffic stops, traffic accident investigation, domestic crisis intervention and building searches.
There will also be physical agility tests and drill team competitions. Seminars on drug education, hate crimes, computer crimes and defensive tactics will be led by members of the Douglas County District Attorney’s office.
The conference, held Friday through Sunday at Caesars and the Horizon casinos, is expected to draw about 625 explorers between the ages of 14 and 21 from Virginia, Montana, Arizona and Washington.
