Emergency crews rescue disabled runner
A teenager who tripped while running about two miles up the Genoa Trail was carried out on Wednesday after she injured her ankle.
Aside from the fact she couldn’t bear weight on her foot, she appeared to be in good health, East Fork Battalion Commander Larry Goss said.
Firefighters attempted to get a hoist capable helicopter from Washoe County, but were able to get her into a wheeled Stokes basket.
Rescuers from East Fork and Douglas County Search and Rescue brought her down the steep and narrow trail to safety. Washoe County’s Raven helicopter was canceled just as it crossed the line into Douglas.
The original call came in at around 10 a.m. and she was off the mountain by 1 p.m. She was not transported by ambulance, Goss said.
Douglas County Search and Rescue and East Fork Fire entered into Unified Command to manage the incident involving the two entirely different specialties.
